Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX Nintendo Switch

In short: ++ Beautiful love letter to the original games + Recruit 'Em All + Most recent evolution lines + mega-evolution +/- Boss battles - Friends areas removed - Story a bit short and simple -- Rogue exploration quickly becomes boring Consider picking up this game if: -> You loved the original games, or you are a veteran of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series -> You like dungeon crawling games, particularly the Mystery Dungeon subgenre -> You like the Pokemon universe and want to immerse yourself even more Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a rogue RPG game and the remaster on Nintendo Switch of two original GBA games Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Teams, key figures in shaping the Mystery Dungeon subgenre. It adds a fresh layer of paint to the formula and brings the original first games of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series to the Nintendo Switch. Rescue Team DX is first and foremost a beautiful love letter to...

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019) Nintendo Switch

In short : ++ It's beautiful ++ A good old Zelda 2D retro-gameplay + Remake quasi 1-to-1, enhancing old or bad mechanics +/- Still quite easy +/- Hero mode is hardcord at first, but then becomes quite easy - Memory gestion and latency -- Dungeon Maker too repetitive with no real rewards The remake of Link's Awakening on Switch is a good throwback to the roots of 2D Zelda rules and mechanics. Link's Awakening was the founder of future Zelda 2D rules and codes and it was also one of the major inspiration for Ocarina of Time. However, does this game still hold up nowadays ? Grezzo, the studio behind the 3D remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Maks on 3DS, is once again the one behind the wheel for this remake. They built it from scratch, trying to map 1-to-1 with the original game First, this game is beautifull ; it goes back to the cartoonish looks and...

Yoshi's Crafted World

Yoshi's Crafted World Nintendo Switch

In short: ++ Levels and landscapes are beautiful, charming + Original, charming and themed music + Boss challenges + Post-game difficulty +/- Flowers and red coins collected only once +/- Costumes - Almost a downgrade of Woolly World -- Tedious hunt for souvenirs/hide-and-seek Yoshi's Crafted World follows the dynamics of previous Yoshi's games ; it focuses on a particular theme (here arts & crafts) and has a childish ambience. The player is tasked to traverse levels while collecting, as usual, red pieces, flowers and hearts. Small addition ; now Yoshi is tasked by NPCs to search for specific objects, "souvenirs" in the landscape of the levels he already visited. First, Good-Feel, the studio behind Crafted World, Woolly World and Kirby's Epic Yarn, delivers as usual a very charming and beautiful game ; the play discovers world, forests, caves, oceans and even space, all crafted upon small daily life objects. It's beautiful to the eyes, tingles the player's inner creativity, and...

Yooka-Laylee Nintendo Switch

In short : ++ Nice "retro" 3D platformer-collectathon vibes ++ A very good spitirual successor to Banjo-Kazooie ++ A sound track by the legends Grant Kirkhope and David Wise + Perfect for Nintendo Switch +/- Boss battles and their inconsistency +/- The british humour / Too much 4th-wall breaking +/- Maybe not that family friendly - Wonkiness of controls -- Long loading time on Nintendo Switch We waited so long for this ; a true successor to the Banjo-Kazooie franchise (Nuts and Bolts doesn't exists). Yooka-Laylee takes the torch and throws good 90's-nostalgic vibes in our faces. Crowdfunded, I'll admit being one of these backers and, oh boy, was I not disappointed. Seeing my name on the backers credits (which is absolutely huge) fills myself with pride. Theses credits could have deserved a bit more care ; some huge names are truncated and some others mean stricly...

Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler Nintendo Switch

In short: ++ The art, the graphics ++ A world that feels alive ++ The combat and classes systems + The story and characters + Freedom in story progression - Limited party management most of the game - Random backtracking of some side-quests Man, what a beautiful piece of enjoyment that is Octopath Traveler. Prepare yourself for a long journey, or multiple short journeys should I say, through Osterra and its vibrant landscapes and its thrilling people. Indeed, the art of the game is jaw-breakingly astounding. The mix between 3D landscapes, 2D sprites and lightings effects offers spectacular views. Moreover, this world is filled with interesting characters with whom the player has short but meaningful interactions. These characters, although unseemingly, also become connected between eachother, as the player discovers and understands the lore behind the game. This all results in creating a world that is both pleasing to the eyes and to the heart of the player. As a Square...

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Nintendo Switch

Pros : -> Astronomical number of things to do -> Very good pacing of mechanics introductions -> Beautiful soundtrack -> Secondary characters which we care about Neutrals : -> Combat system -> Multile endings Cons : -> Raids & Hunts are quickly boring YS VII : Lacrimosa of Dana is absolutely huge. My review sadly won't touch every aspect of the game so I strongly recommend you to look for other reviews for this game if you are interested. There is an astronomical number of different mechanics which are all useful and rewarding one way or another ; secondary quests, raids, hunts, fishing, crafting/blacksmithing, trade, cooking, exploration, secondary character affection, time travels, Dana's aspects and so on. What is really astounding is the way YS VIII can introduce a new mecanic even after the middle of the game ; there is no time to get bored. Even if you believe you have mastered the game and continue with the main story,...
